Owner vs. Artist: Finding Balance When You Wear Every Hat

I am currently the Owner, the Marketing Director, the Janitor, and the Artist. This week, the Artist is losing. I spent six hours on logistics and three hours updating items on the website. By the time I sat down to draw, I was empty.

The trial of July is burnout. The romantic idea of drawing all day meets the reality of running a Shopify store. I’ve had to learn that Artist is only 50% of my job title now. The struggle is learning how to protect my creative energy while still keeping the lights on.

The Lesson

I’ve started Batching my time. Mondays are for Admin. Tuesdays through Thursdays are for drawing. Friday is for Shipping. Creating boundaries for the business has actually set my art free.
