"How Majestic You Are"

There are animals you admire from a distance.
And then there is the elephant.

Up close, everything changes. The skin, ancient, mapped with years of living, every crease a story you will never fully know. The eye, small against the vastness of the face, yet somehow holding more quiet intelligence than you expect. The tusk curving downward with the unhurried confidence of something that has never needed to prove itself.

I spent a long time with this piece. Not because it was difficult, but because I did not want to leave. There is a particular kind of stillness that comes from drawing an animal this old and large. Completely at ease with its own existence. I found myself whispering the title as I worked.

How majestic you are.

I grew up moving between four countries: Nigeria, the United Kingdom, China, and Ethiopia. In each place I arrived small, uncertain, trying to find my footing. The elephant never had that problem. It carries its home with it. It has always known exactly what it is.

I think that is what I was really drawing.
